# vetta outcome

> Create and read outcomes: a rubric a grader holds a session to.

Manage [outcomes](https://vetta.sh/docs/capabilities/outcomes.md) — a description of "done" plus a Markdown rubric, scored by a grader after each turn. An outcome is immutable: to change a rubric, create a new outcome.

## Commands

| Command | Description |
| - | - |
| `vetta outcome create` | Create an outcome. |
| `vetta outcome list` | List outcomes, newest first (paginated). |
| `vetta outcome show <id\|name>` | Show one outcome, by `ocm_` id or by name. |
| `vetta session outcome set` | Attach an outcome to an idle session ([sessions](https://vetta.sh/docs/cli/sessions.md#graded-against-an-outcome)). |

## create

```bash theme={"system"}
vetta outcome create --name refund-quality \
  --description "A correct, policy-compliant refund." \
  --rubric-file ./rubrics/refund.md --max-iterations 4
```

| Flag | Description |
| - | - |
| `--name` | A label (required). Not unique; a name two outcomes share must be addressed by id. |
| `--description` | What a finished, correct result is (required). |
| `--rubric` | The rubric as inline Markdown. |
| `--rubric-file` | A local Markdown file, sent as the rubric's text — or an uploaded file's `fil_` id, read when the outcome is attached. |
| `--max-iterations` | Grade → revise rounds allowed. Default `3`, maximum `20`. |

Pass exactly one of `--rubric` and `--rubric-file`; both or neither exits `2` before anything is sent.

## list, show

```bash theme={"system"}
vetta outcome list --limit 20
vetta outcome show refund-quality
```

`show` and every `--outcome` flag take an `ocm_` id or a name. A name matching no outcome, or more than one, exits `2`.

## Attaching

```bash theme={"system"}
vetta session create --agent agt_kt88353jaw132sjakt4sytz4a6 --outcome refund-quality --message "Refund order #4821"
vetta session outcome set --session $SID --outcome refund-quality
vetta session get $SID     # outcome_evaluations[]: result, iteration, explanation
```

There is no `vetta outcome update` and no `vetta outcome delete`: an evaluation names the rubric it was graded against.
