# vetta data

> Search the data catalogue in any of 18 domains, read a tool's input schema, and run it from the terminal.

The three [data routes](/docs/api/data) from the terminal. Search and describe are free; a run is priced at the tool's listed price. [`vetta social-data`](/docs/cli/social-data) is the same catalogue's `social` domain.

## Commands

| Command | Description |
| - | - |
| `vetta data search "<query>"` | Find tools. `--domain <domain>`, `--platform <network>`, `--limit <1-20>`. |
| `vetta data describe <tool_id>` | A tool's input schema, price and notes. |
| `vetta data run <tool_id>` | Run it; prints the run with its `data` and `cost_micro_usd`. |

`--domain` is one of `social`, `search`, `people`, `companies`, `compliance`, `funding`, `seo`, `finance`, `crypto`, `news`, `legal`, `weather`, `jobs`, `real_estate`, `reviews`, `trade`, `shopping`, `travel` ([what each covers](/docs/capabilities/data#domains)); any other value exits 2 before a request is sent. `--platform` narrows to one social network.

## run

Parameters go where the tool's `describe` output says:

| Flag | Goes to | Example |
| - | - | - |
| `--query key=value` | `query` (repeatable) | `--query symbol=AAPL` |
| `--path key=value` | `path` (repeatable) | `--path id=1234` |
| `--body '<json object>'` | `body` | `--body '{"location":"Austin, TX","maxItems":5}'` |

`key=value` is always text — a ZIP code stays a string. Use `key:=value` for a JSON value: `--query limit:=5`, `--query verified:=true`.

```bash theme={"system"}
vetta data search "insider trades" --domain finance
vetta data describe <tool_id>
vetta data run <tool_id> --query symbol=AAPL
```

A failed run exits 0 and prints `status: "failed"` with its `error` and, normally, `cost_micro_usd: 0`. A refusal before the run (a balance below the tool's listed price, an unknown tool) exits non-zero with the error envelope.
